Prince Henry: crazy car enthusiast, unforgettable ride, legendary vehicle
As a grandchild of British Queen Victoria, Prince Henry of Prussia lived a very eventful life that was always marked by his love for automobiles. Not only did he report a patent for a hand-operated windshield wiper system for motor vehicles, he is also said to have invented the car-horn. The famous “Prince Henry race” for which Ferdinand Porsche built his legendary racing car, was held in his honor. After Porsche was defeated by a certain Kommerzienrat Wilhelm Opel at the second race in 1909, the Austro Daimler, later named ” Prinz Heinrich Car”, won all three first places in 1910. But above all, he could – certainly satisfied – take home a 13.5 kg heavy model of a touring car donated by Prince Henry, as trophy.
