Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951) was undoubtedly a technical genius, a gifted designer and a creative engineer. He invented the wheel hub motor, developed the world’s first hybrid car (Lohner Porsche Mixte), designed cars as well as trucks and tractors for agricultural and military use.
Many achievements, such as the award of an honorary doctorate and the race victories of his Sascha cars, but also setbacks, inter alia, the disputes and rift with Austro-Daimler, charted his life. As he himself said, “If one does not often make mistakes, then one has not challenged oneself enough.”
His racing cars have become an integral part of automotive history. Yet, not only did he build fast cars, he was also passionate about driving and tested all his models on race tracks himself. His passion is exemplified by the following quotes:
“The perfect race car crosses the finish line first and then crumbles into its individual parts.”
“The last car that will be built will be a sports car.”
“Who told you that you should use the brakes, you should simply drive!”
As Ferdinand Porsche also said: “It’s not technology that makes history, but the people who invented it.” In this sense, let yourself be inspired by Porsche´s genius and inventions in the Ferdinand Porsche Erlebniswelten fahr(T)raum Mattsee! You will hear further sayings and anecdotes from the inventor during the guided tours through our special car museum. Why special?
